12 Indian judokas to participate in South Asian Championship

Patiala, Aug 26 (UNI) For providing international exposure to upcoming judokas of the country, the Judo Federation of India (JFI) will be fielding six boys and six girls (all juniors) in the forthcoming senior South Asian Judo Championship slated for September 10 to 14 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The Judokas in the boys category are Virbhan (55 kg), Veer Bahadur Thapa (60 kg), Manjit Nandal (66 kg), Kuldip Kumar (73 kg), Yaima Singh (81kg) and Rajinder Singh (90kg).

Girls: Bidya Lakshmi (44kg), Sangeeta Devi (48kg), Rohini Patil (52 kg), Kalpana (57kg), Garima Choudhary (63kg) and Suni Bala (70kg).

The coaches who will accompany the judokas are J G Sharma, Ajay Vats, Kishore Kumar and Vijender Singh.

UNI XC PS VN1546 The Nepal-bound judokas are presently training in the ongoing national judo camp which got under way on July 29 here at the NIS, followed by the selection trials.

Priyanka's ex-secretary Prakash Jaju arrested

Mumbai, Aug 26 (UNI) Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra's ex-secretary Prakash Jaju was arrested by the city crime branch from Mau in Madhya Pradesh today for allegedly threatening her family members and making 'inappropriate' remarks against them. A crime branch officer said Jaju was arrested from Mau near Indore and would be produced in a court here tomorrow for remand. Priyanka's father Ashok Chopra had filed the First Information Report (FIR) against Jaju at Oshiwara.....

SC extends time for SIT probe in Guj communal riots till Dec 31

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) The Supreme Court today extended the time till December 31, 2008, for a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by former CBI Director R K Raghavan, to submit its final report on whether a dozen major cases of the Gujarat communal riots required CBI investigation. Maharashtra: Peacock death case; probe ordered

Mumbai, Aug 26: Maharashtra Forest Minister Babanrao Pachpute has ordered an inquiry into the mysterious death of 27 peacocks over the weekend in Ranjangaon, about 50 km from Pune. Mr Pachpute ordered the inquiry into the incident yesterday. The deaths of the national bird, found in plenty in this area, have raised doubts about involvement of several elements. The crime branch has been asked to look into the incident and the viscera of the peacocks have been sent to Hyderabad. The reports were.....
