Union Minister calls for joint participation of corporates, NGOs

Kakinada, Aug 22 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Defence M M Pallamraju today called upon the corporate sector and Non-Governmental Organisations to participate in the welfare and development schemes initiated by the government.

Addressing a joint meeting of the representatives of corporate bodies and NGOs at the Collectorate here, the Minister wanted joint participation for effective implementation of welfare schemes such as Rajiv Education Mission and National Rural Health Mission.

He opined that concerted efforts would yield the desired results for the benefit of the society.

He announced that a coordination committee at the district level, with the Collector as the Chairman, was being constituted to ensure participation of corporate sector and the NGOs in the welfare scheme implementation.

The committee would meet once in three months and review the situation and take necessary measures for effective implementation of the schemes, he added.

East Godavari Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi said a comprehensive action plan was being formulated for the effective implementation of schemes.

Representatives of ONGC, GAIL, Reliance, Caine energy, GMR, GFCL, NFCL and various NGOs attended the meeting.

Nearly one fourth construction of Dhamra Port completed

Bhubaneswar, Aug 22 (UNI) Nearly one fourth of the construction work of the Dhamra port in Bhadrak district has already been completed, Commerce Minister Jayanarayan Mishra told the Assembly today. Replying to a question of Ananta Das (BJD), the Minister said 1957.69 acres of private land for the laying of railway line from the Dharma port to Bhadrak had been acquired and 879.10 acres of government land had been handed over to International Sea Ports Limited,.....

One killed, two injured in road accidents

Tezpur, Aug 22 (UNI) One person was killed and two injured in seperate road accidents in Assam's Sonitpur district today. In the first accident, two motor-cycle-borne persons were injured when their motorbike hit a school bus near Tezpur town. One of the riders died on way to Guwahati, while the other sustained serious injuries. In the other accident, a passenger bus and truck collided head-on at Alisinga under Dhekiajuli police station.
