Two SOS Children's Village nominated for AKKA

Bangalore, Aug 22 (UNI) SOS Children's Villages of India, a non-government voluntary childcare organisation, today felicitate its two children selected for the prestigious Associations of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA) Conference to be held at Chicago from August 29.

Jet Airways has come forward to sponsor the trip of Ms Archana and Ms Chetana, who would be presented the Awards during the Conference for their commendable performance in Bharatanatyam.

The twins are now pursuing their Seventh Semester of Engineering degree course in a City college here.

Facilitating the duo before their departure on August 27, SOS Children's Villages of India Deputy National Director Victor Painadath said, "Selection of Archana and Chetana by AKKA was a testimony of our continuing efforts over the past 44 years to provide quality education and better future to 'children in need'.

Jet Airways Area General Manager (South Central) Girish Nair said that Ms Archana and Ms Chetana have excelled both in studies and also in performing arts and it was always been our endeavour to support social causes specially in the area of children. We are proud to be associated with them and also SOS Children's Village of India.

AKKA Conference was held every year to promote Kannada culture and Karnataka's tourism and industrial development programmes.

About 15 students across India would be selected and felicitated during the Conference for their achievements in the field of Music and Dance.

Goa govt to provide Rs 900 lakh subsidy to KTCL

Panaji, Aug 22 (UNI) Goa government has made a budgetary provision of Rs 900 lakh as subsidy to the state-owned Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) for the current fiscal. Replying to an unstarred question, tabled in the state legislative assembly today, transport minister Ramakrishna Davalikar told the House that subsidy amounting to Rs 653.5 lakh, Rs 1,100 lakh and Rs 800 lakh for the years 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 respectively were provided. Delegation of MLAs meets Mah Governor

Mumbai, Aug 22 (UNI) A 10-member all-party delegation of legislators from Raigad district met the Governor of Maharashtra S C Jamir at Raj Bhavan here yesterday. BoI rationalises its home loan rates

Mumbai, Aug 22: Public sector lender Bank of India has rationalised its interest rate on home loans upto Rs 30 lakh and above with effect from August 10. Interest rates on loans upto Rs 30 lakh have been retained at existing range of 9.50 per cent per annum to 10.00 per cent. Interest rates on loans over Rs 30 lakh range between 10.25 per cent to 11.75 per cent, the bank said in a statement. The revised rates are applicable to new.....
