Senior Hockey Competition from Aug 26-29

Chandigarh, Aug 22 (UNI) The 29th Haryana State Level Senior Hockey Competition (Male) will be organised at Markandeswar Hockey Stadium Shahabad, Kurukshetra from August 26 to 29.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will award the winners on the concluding day of the function. The competition will be inaugrated by Olympian and Arjun Awardee Ashok Kumar Dhyanchand on August 26.

Panaji, Aug 22 (UNI) Goa government has taken an initiative to restore and conserve Heritage structures by allocating funds, under the 12th finance commission grants available for the period ending March 2010. This was stated by Archaeology minister Atanasio Monserrate in reply to a starred question of Ms Victoria Fernandes during Question Hour in the state legislative assembly today. The government, he said, had identified 106 heritage structures and further work of listing structures was underway......

2 militants, soldier killed, officer injured in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 22 (UNI) Two militants and a soldier were killed and four army personnel, including a Lt Colonel, were injured in an encounter in the frontier district of Kupwara today. The encounter was still going on when reports last came in, a defence ministry spokesperson told UNI. He said troops of 45 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a search operation in the forest area at Machil this morning following a tip-off about the presence of militants.....

Srinagar/Jammu, Aug 22 (UNI) All roads led to Eidgah, where lakhs of people today joined the Friday congregation, organised by the Coordination Committee (CC) as a general strike paralysed life in the Kashmir valley after three days of normal activities.
