Security beefed up around power stations, dams in K'taka

Bangalore, Aug 22 (UNI) In the wake of serial blasts that rocked the city last month, the state government has planned to provide a round-the-clock security to its 352 vital power stations, dams and bridges on national highways, Home Minister V S Acharya said today.

Speaking to reporters here he said a meeting of the officials of the departments of Power, Irrigation and Public Works department to have a re look into the security and planned to set up a five-member committee to give its report in ten next ten days in the wake of terrorists targetting the state.

Security would be provided with one India Reserve Battalion in and two KSRP battalions and the step would cost about Rs 30 crore annually to the state's exchequer provide security to 352 installations which was worth Rs one lakh crore, he said.

The state police would be given an area specific training in providing the protection to the installation, he said.

The Home the department was planning to provide a special security to 52 most important installations of 352 locations.

After bomb threat, now it is earthquake hoax

Gulbarga, Aug 22 (UNI) After putting out bomb threats over phone, miscreants have now chosen earthquake to scare people. Panic prevailed in five districts on Hyderabad-Karnataka border last night following a message over phone that an earthquake would strike and people should be put on alert. Bombay HC directs Atram to surrender on August 28

Mumbai, Aug 22 (UNI) Bombay High Court today directed former Maharashtra minister for transport and tribal development Dharmarao Atram to surrender before the forest department office at Pune on August 28 in the chinkara poaching case. Earlier, Atram's advocate informed Justice V K Tahilramani that the former minister wants to withdraw the application and sought time for surrender before the investigating agency.
