Punjab notifies new purchase policy

Chandigarh, Aug 22 (UNI) The Punjab Government today notified a new transparent purchase policy, allowing Principals of Medical, Dental, Ayurvedic and Homeopathic Colleges in the state to purchase machinery and equipment as per rate contract of PGI, Government Medical College and Hospital Sector 32, Chandigarh, Health and Family Welfare Department Punjab and Punjab Health System Corporation whichever is the lowest.

According to Medical Education and Research Minister Tikshan Sud, this decision has been taken to avoid delay in process of making purchase of Machinery and equipment for the medical institutions in the State.

He said that Director Medical Education and Research would quarterly request the above government sources to provide information regarding changes, if any, in the items covered under rate contract and informed the Principles accordingly.

The Medical Education and Research Minister informed that for items not covered under above rate contract an 11-member Central Committees headed by Secretary Medical Education and Research has been constituted.

Similarly, for purchases below 1 lakh, a five-member committee of the institute under the Chairmanship of Head of Institution have been constituted.

The Minister said that this policy has been framed to cut red tappism besides also keeping in view emergent need of equipments and machinery in the medical institutions UNI JN MMS1459

Section 377 IPC impeding AIDS control interventions - Ramadoss

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss today said that his Ministry is lobbying with agencies concerned for removal of Section 377 of Indian Penal Code, which prohibits gay and lesbian relations, as it is impeding the Government's AIDS control measures. Speaking after inaugurating a photo exhibition on AIDS Awareness at Rajiv Chowk Station of Delhi Metro here, the Health Minister said India has a population group of 2.3 million.....

City police arrested inter-state gang of car lifters

Bangalore, Aug 22 (UNI) The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths of the City Police have busted an inter-state gang of car lifters and recovered 50 cars worth more than Rs 3 crore. Speaking to newspersons here today City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said that in a major breakthrough five persons who were also wanted by Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Maharashtra police had been apprehended. He said Lathief, one of the four arrested was involved in car theft.....

Officer kills self after shooting colleague

Agartala, Aug 22 (UNI) A Special Police Officer (SPO) allegedly shot himself dead after shooting his colleague following a dispute over a mobile phone in West Tripura. Police said Arun Datta (22) of Hazaripara under Kalaynpur police station shot dead his colleague Subrata Sukladas (21), who was accusing him of stealing his mobile phone before turning the gun on himself. According to reports, Subrata lost his mobile two days ago and had been suspecting fellow officer.....
