President lauds Vijender for winning Olympic medal

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil today congratulated Vijender Kumar for clinching a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics.

''I am very happy and proud that you have won the bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics in the middleweight division of the boxing competition,'' the President said in a statement here.

''Your achievement is praiseworthy not only because you have given India another medal at the Games, but also more so because you have pushed yourself to the limit in the true spirit of the Olympics, while being pitted against the best in world,'' she added.

''I wish you all the best for the future.'' Vijender is the first Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics. He also became the first Indian pugilist to enter the semifinals at the world's greatest sporting spectacle after outpunching Carlos Gongora of Ecuador in the quarterfinals.

100 JCBs deployed to restore apple transportation

Shimla, Aug 22 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh governement is fighting with adverse road condition in apple producing areas and added 20 more JCBs today to restore traffice to transport apple in the state. Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Minister Nariender Bragata said that state adminstration has increased JCB machine and 100 JCBs are restoring traffic in view of apple season in the state. He said that 64 Lakh apple boxes had been sent to different markets and 3200 MT.....

Torrential rain disrupts traffic on Hindustan-Tibet Road

Shimla, Aug 22 (UNI) Moderate to heavy rain lashed Himachal Pradesh since last night, causing fresh landslides disrupting traffic on the Hindustan-Tibet Road in Shimla district. As many as 14 HRTC buses were stranded on the Hindustan-Tibet road near Rampur-Bhushair following landslides in the wake of torrential rain today.
