PM congratulates Vijender for Olympic exploits

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today congratulated Vijender Kumar for winning a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics.

''I congratulate you on winning the bronze medal in the 75 kg category boxing event at the Olympics,'' the Prime Minister said in his message.

''Your single minded devotion to excellence in your chosen field of sport has resulted in this achievement, which makes the entire nation proud,'' he added. ''I am confident that greater laurels await you in the future.'' Vijender, who lost to Emillio Correa of Cuba in the semifinals, is the first Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics.

Sharif agrees to wait for judges reinstatement till Wednesday

Islamabad, Aug.22 : Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Nawaz Sharif today said that his party would wait till Wednesday for the sacked judges to be restored. Denying the the PML-N-PPP coalition was breaking up, he said there was a written deal with Asif Zardari that judges would be restored within 24 hours after Musharraf's resignation, but this had failed to take place. Mamata wants return of 400 acres in Singur

Kolkata, Aug 22 : Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today said she would not budge from her stand of demanding the 400 acres of land taken for the TATA Nano project in Singur. Malayalam cinema goes international with 'Aakasha Gopuram'

Kochi, August 22 : Country's first international Malayalam film 'Aakasha Gopuram', released nationwide on Friday. The film is an adaptation of the Henrik Ibsen classic play 'The Master Builder', which was first published in 1892 and first performed in Berlin on January 19, 1893. Tutu J. Sharma, Taizoon Khorakiwala and Manu S. Kumaran produced the film while National award winning director K. P. Kumaran directed it. The film stars Mohanlal, (the late) Bharat Gopi, Shweta Menon and Nithya. Speaking to the media.....
