Normal supply of diesel will be ensured in TN: Chief Secy

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 22 (UNI) The oil companies have assured the Tamil Nadu Government of normal supply of diesel in the state within 24 hours, Chief Secretary L K Tripathy said today.

Addressing a press conference after reviewing the ongoing developmental programmes in the district with the district officials here, he said the state government had already taken up the matter with the companies and they had also assured to increase the monthly quota to Tamil Nadu.

Stating that the existing power crisis was a temporary one owing to monsoon failure, he said with the hydel power generation picking up in the state, the supply position would also improve.

With the commissioning of the first unit of the Koodangulam nuclear power project in April, the second unit of which would be commissioned in December, the power supply was expected to get further boost.

Asked about the much-awaited expansion of the Tiruchirapalli airport, Mr Tripathy said the district administration had identified adequate land for the expansion works. The technical problem, pertaining to extension of the existing runway, due to the presence of Uyyakondan Irrigation Canal, was also sorted out, he added.

The administration had also acquired land for setting up IT parks and handed it over to State-owned Tamil Nadu Electronic Corporation (ELCOT) for the purpose.

Though several major IT companies had evinced interest to start IT parks in Tiruchirapalli, it had been delayed due to crisis in the US IT sector. However, they would come up in a short span of time, he added.
