'NC walk out CA if Communists bulldoze democracy'

Kathmandu, Aug 22 (UNI) Nepali Congress (NC) central member Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that his party would walk out of the Constituent Assembly if the leftist alliance tries to draft the constitution by sidelining democratic forces.

''NC lawmakers will be compelled to resign en masse from the CA if the left alliance tries to draft the constitution in favor of leftists agenda by bulldozing NC's democratic norms,'' the Kathmandu Post quoted Dr Koirala as saying in Pokhara.

Maoists have taken democratic forces as their main foes immediately after the implementation of republic in the country, he said.

Dr Koirala alleged that Maoists are moving forward toward totalitarian and authoritarian rule in the country.

He stressed the need for unity among democratic forces to foil the Maoist strategy of misusing all state mechanisms to attain their partisan goals.

''The Maoist has started to demoralise security agencies and all other democratic institutions in the country,'' he said refering to the Maoists' decision to depute PLA for the security of Prime Minister undermining the Nepal army and Nepal police.

Dr Koirala said the interim government could not decide on long-term issues of national importance.

NC central member Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, said the party was compelled to work with Maoists due to the former king's wrong deeds.

Maoists needed NC to abolish monarchy,'' he said, adding, ''They threw us out after the implementation of republic.'' Maoists refused to share power with NC after the declaration of republic and abolition of monarchy in Nepal.
