New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Capturing the very ''undying spirit of Mumbai'' and the ''never say die'' attitude of its people is 'Mumbai Meri Jaan', a film that explores the impact of the 2006 serial blasts in the city's local trains on the people of the city.
Produced by UTV, 'Mumbai Meri Jaan', which releases in theatres worldwide today, follows the lives of people from all strata of Mumbai's bustling society as they tackle the aftermath of the fatal blasts that brought out the best and sometimes the worst in them.
Mumbai is said to attract, in its fold every year, thousands of people with ''dreams in their eyes'', be it the ''star struck'' arriving in the city with aspiration of making it big in tinsel world or those heading to the country's business capital in quest of commercial success.
However, on July 11, 2006, a series of blasts shook the local train network of Mumbai, striking at the lifeline of the city and tearing apart lives of thousands of people, bringing forth the dark side ''city of dreams''.
But, true to the saying that ''when things get tough, let the tough get going'', the city found itself bouncing back in no time, just as it had done during previous tragedies like the 1993 bomb blasts and the heavy rains last year.
'Mumbai Meri Jaan', which marks the Hindi film directorial debut for Nishikant Kamat, who earlier directed the National Award winning Marathi film 'Dombovali Fast', is the story of how the 2006 serial blasts in the local trains that carry lakhs of people everyday impact the lives of a broadcast journalist Rupali Joshi, a patriotic software executive Nikhil Aggarwal, a retiring police constable Tukaram Patil and a rookie cop Sunil Kadam at the dawn of his career, an angry and xenophobic unemployed man Suresh and a coffee vendor Thomas Gonzalves.
Featuring actors like Soha Ali Khan, Kay Kay Menon, Irfan Khan, R Madhavan and Paresh Rawal, the film shows how the serial train blasts evoke a range of emotions among the protagonists from fear to grief to anger, hatred, frustration, greed to suspicion, conscience and survival instinct.
