Mokade, Dapre retain men and women's titles

Panaji, Aug 22 (UNI) As expected, Kiran Makode (Nagpur) and Leena Dapre from (Pune) today retained the men and women LIC West Zone Badminton titles respectively in the 42nd LIC West Zonal Badminton tournament, hosted by LIC, Goa Division office, which concluded here at the SAG Indoor stadium.

In a closly fought men's final, Kiran Makode defeated Arvind Gangani (Surat) by 25-23, 21-19 and claimed the men's title.

In the women's singles final, Leena Dapre had no difficulty to oust Vaishali Shirodkar in straight games 21-13, 21-6 and clinch the women's single title.

Both retained their titles for the third year in sucession.

Makode won the men's title for eight times, while Dapre won women's title for 10 times.

Arvind Gangani and Vaishali Shirodkar had to be content with second place in the men and women's events recently.

S A Potnis (Pune II) defeated S S Sovani (Pune) by 21-9, 21-13 and bagged third and fourth position respectivly in the women's singles event.

2,900 government doctors in Orissa to resign on Aug 29

Bhubaneswar, Aug 22 : The delay in implementation of measures announced by Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik might lead to mass resignation by Government doctors on August 27. Over 2900 doctors working in government hospitals in Orissa have threatened to tender mass resignation on August 27. CII expresses concern over West Bengal situation on Nano project
