Madikeri Dasara organisers seek Rs 1 cr from govt

Madikeri, Aug 22 (UNI) Following the state government's decision to celebrate Mysore Dasara in a grand manner and allocation of Rs ten crore for the purpose, the Madikeri Dasara Organising Committee in Kodagu District today sought Rs one crore from the government.

Committee Working President M B Devaiah told a meeting here that with the costs going up, the committee needed more funds.

''When the government is Rs ten crore to Mysore Dasara, it should at least release rupees one crore to Madikeri,'' he opined.

City Municipal Council President P D Ponnappa sought the cooperation of all the people and said a special meeting would be called to discuss the matter of fund-raising.

Committee Secretary K M Ganesh, who placed the last years accounts, said 18 lakh was spent last year.

Dasara at Madikeri is celebrated in a grand manner with ten decorated carts taking out a procession on the main streets of Madikeri.

Rupee gains 15 paise against greenback

Mumbai, Aug 22: The Rupee gained about 15 paise at 43.36/37 per US Dollar from its previous close of 43.51/52 per dollar amid mixed global cues in the early trade. The Indian unit edged higher against the greenback after a large company was seen selling dollars it received for a joint venture, but higher oil prices are expected to keep a lid on the gains, dealers said. 35 year old man stabbed to death near Dahisar

Mumbai, Aug 22: A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death near Dahisar check naka in western suburbs here on Thursday, Aug 22. According to police, Pradip Laxman Birje, who was working as site supervisor in a construction company, had 13 stab injuries on his body.
