Light rain, thundershowers cool Delhi, mercury drops to 31 Deg C

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) A fresh spell of rain and thundershowers hit the Capital this morning, maintaining the cool weather in the city and bringing relief to its residents from the sultry weather over the last few days.

The rains, which hit the city in the early hours of the morning, followed a heavily overcast sky in the city since last evening.

Though just 1.1 mm rainfall was recorded till 0830 hours, the rain and the accompanying thundershowers kept the maximum temperature three degrees below normal at 31 degree celsius.

A high humidity level of 90 per cent, however, led to the minimum temperature in the morning being recorded one degree above normal at 26.5 degrees.

The coolness in the weather is likely to persist with weathermen forecasting one or two spells of rain and thundershowers in the city during the next 24 hours.

''Rain/thundershowers are likely at many places over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh during next 24 hours,''the Met office said.

The Met ofice has forecast a generally cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with one or two spells of rain and thundershowers.

After a sultry weather early this week, light rains have been experienced in Delhi over the past couple of days, plummeting the mercury and bringing relief from the sultry weather in the city.
