KASSIA moots establishment of MSME University

Bangalore, Aug 22 (UNI) Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) today mooted establishment of a separate Universityfor the benefit of Micro, Small and Medium Enterpreneurs (MSME) on the lines of Agriculture, Technology and Health Sciences KASSIA President Arvind N Burji said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that the MSME University was aimed at attracting young generation to take up Entreprenurship.

"Of late though larger number of Engineers and IIM graduates were produced only a few become Entreprenurs sounding wrong signal to the future of the Industrial development of not only in the State but also in the Country." Mr Burji said that a proposal for MSME University has been put before the Karnataka Government and there was positive response from Minister for Small and Medium Industries Venkataramanappa during his recent visit to KASSIA.

KASSIA Hon. General Secretary Prakash N Raikar, said that the University will not only help in attracting young generation to Entreprenurship but also can produce students employable in any industry whether it is Small, Medium or Large.

"The curiculum can be prepared based on the requirements of the industries. Since last five years, due to IT and BT, the younger generation venturing into Entreprenurship has drastically reduced and there is urgent need take up necessary steps," he added.

Replying to a question, he said that " KASSIA is ready to establish such an University, but since it needs huge fund and Land Fund we have putforth the proposal with the State government." Mr Burji said that KASSIA has adopted two Industrial Training Industries (ITI) one in Arasikere and another in Belgaum for which the Central Government is giving Rs 20 Crore as interest free loan repayable after 20 years. KASSIA's role will be Advisory in nature.

A Committee, involving local Industrialists, Deputy Commissioner, Experts in the industry field would be formed to prepare syllabus according to the need of the surrounding industries.

He said that KASSIA is running a School of Management which provides a short term course for ITI passed students and job was also guaranteed.

Jammu: Youth attempts suicide in police custody

Jammu, Aug 22: A youth made an abortive bid on his life by slitting his throat inside police custody in Pouni Chak area on city outskirts, sources here today said. Lalu to introduce monorail project in Patna

Patna, Aug 22: Inspired by the success of monorail in Kuala Lumpur, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad was actively thinking to introduce such system in Patna. Deputy General Manager (ECR) AK Chandra said here on Friday, Aug 22 that a team headed by General Manager Piush Kaushal will conduct a survey before taking up such project. New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will visit Kolkata for two days from tomorrow. She is visiting West Bengal for the first time after assuming office at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
