IMC's Research Report on the Mithi river

Mumbai Aug 22 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today unveiled a report on the river Mithi running through this metropolis.

He lauded the efforts of the Indian Merchants' Chamber (IMC) for sponsoring the research on the river and wanted the city corporation and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials to interact closely with IMC and the University of Pennsylvania.

The Report on 'The Mithi River: Re-articulating Mumbai's landscape', sponsored by IMC, as part of its Centenary Celebrations, was prepared by the students from the School of Design, University of Pennsylvania. The team of students was guided by Anuradha Mathur and Dilip da Cunha.

The basic objective in sponsoring this study was to initiate a deeper dialogue on alternate ways of understanding and transforming the Mithi landscape.

The research was sponsored with a multiple purpose of transforming the Mithi landscape as also to see that the experience of July 26, 2005, when Mumbai got flooded, did not repeat, said Mr Chaini in his opening remarks. This was a part of the Chamber's Corporate Social Responsibility, as the Chamber believed in giving back to the Society what it had received from the Society over the years.
