Haryana offers DSP's post to 4 Olympic quarter-finalists

Chandigarh, Aug 22 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced that four players of Haryana, who had reached quarterfinals of their respective events at Beijing Olympics would be appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in recognition of their significant achievement.

Speaking to mediapersons in New Delhi, the Chief Minister,said a wrestling academy would be set up at an appropriate place in Haryana to further promote wrestling.

Mr Hooda also announced to give a cash reward of Rs 50 lakh to Vijender Kumar, a boxer hailing from Bhiwani, Haryana, for winning a bronze medal in Olympics.

He also announced to give a reward of Rs 25 lakh to the boxing coach of Haryana, Jagdish Singh, as a mark of respect for the coaching imparted by him to the boxers.

He also announced to give a cash award of Rs 25 lakh each to those three players of Haryana who had reached quarter finals at Beijing Olympics. They included boxers Akhil Kumar and Jitender Kumar and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt. Mr Hooda said a boxing academy would also be established in Bhiwani. He appreciated the performance of boxer Vijender and added, ''the state is proud of these three boxers.

He hoped that as a result of the incentives being given by the Haryana government to the players, they would win more medals in the forthcoming 2010 Commonwealth Games and bring laurels to the state and the country.

The Chief Minister further said the performance of the players of Haryana at Beijing Olympics had proved that there was no dearth of talent in the rural areas of the state.

The state government was already constructing over 150 stadia in rural areas to help the youth in channelising their energies and improve their performances in games of their choice, he added.
