Goa to constitute law commission to review state laws

Panaji, Aug 22 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today assured the state Legislative Assembly that he would constitute a state-level law commission to examine various laws of the state so that they could be reviewed and amended, if necessary.

Replying to a private members resolution moved by the Opposition BJP leader Manohar Parrikar, the Chief Minister said the proposed state law commission would be on the lines of the national commission. It would be constituted within two months time.

Following the Mr Kamat's assurance, the Oppositon leader withdrew the resolution, wherein he had demanded constitution of an expert review committee headed by a retired High Court or Supreme Court Judge to review all rules and regulations formed under various state and Central acts in vogue in the State.

He also suggested whether these laws and rules were in contravention of the provisions of the constitution.

Steel Ministry announces social welfare measures for its workers

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has announced a number of social welfare measures for the benefit of the SC, ST and other workers employed with eleven of its PSUs in the country which will be implemented by October this year. Police arrests 1993 Mumbai blasts accused

Mumbai, Aug 22, 2008: In a major achievement, the crime branch of the Mumbai police has traced a key-aide of Dawood, Karimullah Osan Habib Khan, who is also accused for the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. He was arrested on Thursday, Aug 21 following a tip-off received by the crime branch. The CBI had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh on Khan who fled from the country after the blasts. The blasts were the worst terror attack in India.  .....

Regulation:We can't abdicate our role in toto, Govt tells TV channel
