Former CEC to meet IWF on Monika issue

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Former Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy, who is enquiring into the doping scandal involving weighlifter Monika Devi, will meet the Indian Weightlifter Federation (IWF) on August 26 on the issue.

Krishnamurthy had earlier met various officials of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as well as the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

However, he is yet to receive the written representation of Monika.

Monika, who was India's lone representation in weightlifting, at the Beijing Olympics, was selected ahead of Shailaja Pujari in the IWF trials last month despite the latter emerging to be a better performer.

However, the weightlifter from Manipur missed the plane to Beijing after testing positive for doping. Her exclusion from the Olympic contingent sparked widespread controversy with Monika alleging a conspiracy by SAI officials.
