Srinagar, Aug 22 (UNI) Concerned over the reports about migration of muslim gujjars from some areas in Jammu region because of alleged attacks by communal forces, the Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation (TRCF) appealed to authorities to provide them proper security.
National Secretary of the TRCF, a national organisation working for Gujjars, Dr Javid Rahi said some elements among the gujjars are trying to create confusion and chaos among the community by spreading rumours.
However, he said the tribe needs to identify them so that they are not isolated.
Dr Rahi appealed to tribes residing in Jammu region, not to migrate from their ancestral lands.
They should instead work and coordinate with the majority hindu community and administration to restore normalcy, he said.
Seeking the intervention of district administration and the members of majority community to help restore confidence among various communities in the region, Dr Rahi said the Gujjars are integral part of the multi ethnic structure of Jammu region and have stood by majority communities for centuries besides have proven their credentials in testing times.
He said a number of Gujjar leaders from various states of the country admist the news of migration of 250 Gujjar families from various areas of Jammu, Samba and Kathua to Jammu city forest area have impressed upon them not to think migrating from their ancestral holds.
In separate massages to Dr Rahi, the Gujjar leaders of eleven states of India expressed solidarity and sympathy with the muslim Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir.
They appealed to majority hindu community in Jammu to provide security to Gujjars of Jammu region and ensure their safety.
The Gujjar leaders in a massage to Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS), said the Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir has all alone proven themselves to the credentials of secularism. They should be guarded at any cast, the leaders said.
