Delhi govt to release Rs 15 cr for re-dev of Red Fort-Fatehpuri Ro

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today assured the Municipal corporation of Delhi (MCD) that her government would release Rs 15 crore, which is required for the re-development of road from Red Fort to Fatehpuri Masjid as per the plan prepared by the Ministry of Science and Technology headed by and Chandi Chowk MP Union Minister of Science and Technology Kapil Sibal.

His Ministry today made a presentation before Ms Dikshit, wherein Mr Sibal and senior officers of his Ministry, Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, P K Tripathi, MCD Commissioner K S Mehra, Secretary (PWD), E-in-C (PWD) and senior officers from other departments/agencies concerned were present.

It was decided that Delhi Government would reimburse an amount of Rs 15 crore once it is utilised by the MCD to execute the Action Plan for re-development of the road, which would give it an attractive and aesthetic look. It would include street furniture, street lighting, modern signages, attractive elevations, convenient footpaths, benches, common cable system and others.

The entire plan once approved would be executed within six months.

On this occasion, Mr Sibal requested Ms Dikshit to inaugurate solar-powered rickshaws in Chandni Chowk on October 2.

The rickshaw would weigh 210 kg and would be able to run at a speed of 15/20 km. per hour. It would be run by a solar battery, which would suffice for a journey of 70 km.

Local mosques remained closed, people join Eidgah congregation

Two soldiers injured by militants in Kashmir

Srinagar Aug 22 (UNI) Two soldiers of Territorial Army (TA) were injured when militants fired upon them in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal, official sources said today. They said militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) shot at and wounded two soldiers of TA Reyaz Ahmad and Bashir Ahmad when they were moving in the Najwan area of Kangan. Assam ministry reshuffle soon: Gogoi

Guwahati, Aug 22(UNI) Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said he will reshuffle his ministry soon. Addressing a news conference, he said a vacancy was created in the ministerial berth following arrest and subsequent jail of education minister Ripun Bora by the CBI on corruption charges.
