CM's gesture to poor student

Chennai, Aug 22 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today ordered the immediate payment of Rs 25,000 to a poor girl student in Tiruvallur District who secured admission to an engineering college in Villupuram District.

An official release here this morning said Mr Karunanidhi, reacting to press reports on the inablity of Ms Yuvasri, who secured 1,018 marks in the Plus Two Examinations, to join the college as she could not pay the fee of Rs 25,000, ordered Tiruvallur District Collector to meet the girl today and pay the sum.

The amount is being released under the Chief Minister's General Relief Fund, the release added.

Washington, Aug 22 : Growing up with a pet dog increases the baby's chances of being a heavy snorer in later life, claims a Swedish study. The research, which has been published in BioMed Central's open access journal Respiratory Research, describes possible childhood risk factors, including exposure to animals, early respiratory or ear infections and growing up in a large family.
