Centre did not share expenses for conduct of IFFI: Kamat

Panaji, Aug 22 (UNI) The Centre did not share any of the expenses incurred for the conduct of successive International Film Festivals of India (IFFI) held in Goa, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat informed the Legislative Assembly today.

In a written reply to a starred question, the Mr Kamat said the state had incurred Rs 14.63 crore in the year 2006-07 and Rs 11.66 crore in 2007-08 on different heads.

The state had paid the entire expenditure incurred but payment of Rs 13.48 lakh in respect of venue-wise cultural programmes and Rs 4.05 lakh in respect of Kala Academy was pending, he added.

Steel Ministry announces social welfare measures for its workers

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has announced a number of social welfare measures for the benefit of the SC, ST and other workers employed with eleven of its PSUs in the country which will be implemented by October this year. Police arrests 1993 Mumbai blasts accused

Mumbai, Aug 22, 2008: In a major achievement, the crime branch of the Mumbai police has traced a key-aide of Dawood, Karimullah Osan Habib Khan, who is also accused for the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. He was arrested on Thursday, Aug 21 following a tip-off received by the crime branch. The CBI had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh on Khan who fled from the country after the blasts.
