Big crowd responsible for Indian failure in Beijing: Singh

Jamshedpur, Aug 22 (UNI) Dronacharya awardee and archery coach Sanjeeva Singh today said the inability to cope with big crowds and noisy stadiums were responsible for the dismal show of Indian archers at the Beijing Olympics.

Talking to UNI here during the opening ceremony of first junior and cadet national ranking archery championship, Saneeva said 'Our players are not accustomed to playing in front of big crowds. They were not at ease with the noise of bugle and other instruments. It affected their performance.'' Supporting Sanjeeva's opinion, Indian assistant coach in Beijing, Purnima Mahto stressed for the need to construct such stadiums for Commonwealth games where Indian archers could get accustomed to playing in front of big crowds.

'This will help us fare better in future Olympics. Our archers will have to learn to play in front of big crowd,' she said.
