Ajit meets Gowda to discuss third front formation

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Rashtriya Lok Dal President Ajit Singh today had a breakfast meeting with former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) President H D Deve Gowda for a discussion about the scope for a non-Congress-non-BJP formation in the country. The meeting comes in the wake of Mr Gowda's meeting with top Left parties yesterday following the decision of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's decision to field BSP candidates in all Lok Sabha constituencies in her state.

Mr Singh, who was part of the UNPA, had opened his lines with the BJP after the BSP's announcement and the BJP, which is seeking desperately to increase its vote share in Uttar Pradesh, the country's most populous and biggest state, has not ruled out bringing in more parties into the NDA front both in the pre-poll and post-poll alignments.

The UNPA constituents have planned a series of meetings tomorrow to shore up the sagging fortunes of the UNPA after Mayawati's decision to go it alone in UP. Telugu Desam Party chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be in town to meet CPI-M Chief Prakash Karat, Ms Mayawati and her confidant Satish Mishra.
