5 SIMI leaders remanded to Gujarat police custody

Indore, Aug 22: Five activists of banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) lodged in different jails in Madhya Pradesh were on Friday, Aug 22 remanded in Gujarat police custody for interrogation in connection with the recent serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad.

Disposing of an application submitted by a team of Gujarat police, which arrived here yesterday, Mr S S Thakur, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Dhar, today issued orders remanding SIMI leader Safar Nagori and four others to their custody.

While Nagori is lodged in Rewa jail, other SIMI activists Kamaruddin, Asif Hussain, Amil Parvez and Sibli are lodged in Indore Central Jail.

Court sources said the five SIMI leaders would be presented before a sessions court in Ahmedabad for further directions.

Safdar Nagori and 12 other leaders of SIMI were arrested from their hideouts in Indore, Pithampur (Dhar) and adjoining areas few months ago and were since lodged in jail.
