21 state owned companies making profit in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Aug 22 (UNI) Orissa government has pursued a policy of selective privatisation of loss making public and co-operative corporations operating in non-core sectors, Public Enterprise minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo told the Assembly today.

Replying to a question of Mr Bimal Lochan Das (JMM), the minister said the primary objective of the policy was to revive potentially viable loss making enterprises.

Mr Deo said as a part of this policy, the state government had opted for a model of privatisation to secure the interest of the workers and to create opportunities for further job creation by catalysing the dynamism of private enterprises.

He said the government would continue to pursue the policy during the next five years.

The government, the minister said, had also identified a set of core enterprises, which would continue to operate as public sector.

Efforts would be made to provide these enterprises optimum managerial autonomy to help them run on sound commercial principles.

The Minister said as many 65 enterprises were working under the government at present. Out of these, while 21 were running on profit, nine on loss and two on no profit no loss basis. As many as 33 corporations were closed.

The Minister said APICOL and Orissa State Civil Supplies Corporation were running on no profit no loss basis.

While IDCOL Software Limited, Orissa Pisciculture Development Corporation, Orissa Bridge and Construction Corporation, Orissa Agro Industries Corporation, Konark Jute Ltd, Orissa Small Industries Corporation, Orissa Rural Housing and Development Corporation, IDCOL Kalinga Iron Works and Kalinga Studios Limited were making losses.

Orissa Mining Corpn, Orissa Power Generation Corporation,IDCO, Orissa Hydro Power Corporation, Orissa Power Transmission Corporation, Orissa State Beverage Corporation, IDCOL Ferro Chrome Alloys Ltd, Orissa State Warehousing Corporation, Industrial Development Corporation of Orissa, Orissa State Seeds Corporation, IPICOL,GRIDCO, OTDC, Orissa State Cashew Development Corporation, OSFC, Orissa State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation, OFDC, OSRTC, Orissa Lift Irrigation Corporation, Orissa Construction Corporation and Orissa Film Development Corporation were making profit, he added.

Advance tax collections for Q1 up 24.1% at Rs 21,368 cr

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) The government today said it has posted a 24.1 per cent growth in the collection of Corporate Advance Tax at Rs 21,368 crore during quarter ended June 2008, compared to a 27.9 per cent increase in the same period last year.
