Sarkozy says troops must stay in Afghanistan

Orly/ Kabul, Aug 21, 2008: An emotional President Sarkozy insisted on Wednesday, Aug 20 that there would be no French wobble over Afghanistan, urging troops in Kabul to fight with fresh resolve after the loss of ten comrades.

Ten soldiers were killed in a major battle that erupted when Taliban insurgents ambushed a French patrol in Afghan capital on Monday, Aug 18. In a short visit, Sarkozy first paid his respects to the dead soldiers. Despite the deaths, Sarkozy said French troops must stay in Afghanistan to fight terrorism.

Kabul, July 22: Afghan Taliban rebels said they had killed two German hostages yesterday, but Germany's foreign minister said one of the hostages was still alive and the other had died from ''stress and strain''. A Taliban spokesman, Qari Mohammad Yousuf, also said the militants would start killing the 23 Korean hostages they held if South Korea did not withdraw its troops from Afghanistan and the Afghan government did not release Taliban prisoners......
