Tripura TMC to protest Tata's stand on Singur project

Agartala, August 21 (UNI) Tripura unit of Trinamool Congress (TMC) today announced to go on agitation on August 23, supporting their party president, Mamata Banerjee's plan for an indefinite blockade at Singur plant from August 24.

Addressing media, TMC, Tripura unit Chairman, Arun Chandra Bhowmik said here that party workers will organise a protest rally in Agartala, against the illegal acquisition of land by Tata Motors in Singur, followed by an eight hours sit to demonstration programme near Civil Secretariat.

'' TMC had considered all the aspects and developmental issues and demanded Tata and the state government to return 400 acres of land for which farmers had not taken their compensation'', he stated.

He however, alleged that both the state government and Tata had been trying to convince the common people that returning of excess land to the farmers have legal problem, though Land Acquisition Act has specific provision for returning the land to the owners.

He also claimed that TMC had been fighting continuously against the misrule of left front government in West Bengal and Mamata Banerjee has emerged as the main opposition of leftists in the country by raising voice against their anti-people policies in Singur and Nandigram.

Referring to issues in Tripura, Mr Bhowmik alleged that both the state and central governments have failed to protect the security and sovereignty of the country and Tripura has become a hub for international terrorists like HUJI.
