Students to undertake campaign on Global Warming

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 21 (UNI) As many as 100 students of Holy Cross College and members of Exnora Club planned to undertake campaigns and training programmes on 'Global Warming' for three months from September in Corporation limits, according to a college press release.

The club members will explain to students and the public about the causes and effects of global warming and the ways to control it.

Students will conduct campaigns in their neighbourhoods during weekends and would later move on to schools and colleges, it said.

At the trainers' training programme conducted for about 100 students here yesterday, S P Mohan, Tamil Nadu State President of Youth and Students' Exnora, said the participants were given orientation on public-speaking to impart their knowledge on global warming and climatic changes effectively.

The students will approach other Institutions to sensitise the younger generation to the melting of glaciers, causing a rise in sea level. For the first time in the State, students of a single Institution will be undertaking a mass public campaign on the issue, Mr Mohan added.

Inputs on the impact of global warming at local-level would be incorporated in the campaign material, the release added.

Authorities dispatches relief material for flood victims

Ludhiana, Varanasi, Aug 21: Authorities in Ludhiana have dispatched relief material for flood victims in numerous villages in the state. 'Missing' snail found in Britain after 110 years

London, August 21 : One of Britain's most recently discovered species - a type of Italian snail, has been found in the country after a gap of 110 years. According to a report in the Times, Papillifera papillaris, the snail in question, arrived in England near the end of the 19th century, having hitched a ride on a stone balustrade imported from Rome.
