Students boycott classes, processions continue

Srinagar, Aug 21 (UNI) Students of different educational institutions today boycotted their classes in a row and took to streets protesting against the killings in police and CRPF firing and alleged economic blockade and attack on drivers in Jammu.

Yesterday, "mashal" processions were also taken out for the second consecutive day to mark the protest.

However, life remained normal with all shops and business establishments open, transport plying on all routes and work in government offices, banks and other commercial establishments going on smoothly.

Last night thousands of people in different localities took to the streets in their respective areas raising pro-freedom slogans for several hours before dispersing peacefully.

The processionists holding ''mashals'' in their hands demanded reopening of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road.

Students of different institutions again boycotted their classes for the second day today and took to the streets in the city.

The students raising pro-freedom slogans, however, remained peaceful.

Similar processions were also witnessed in other parts, including Moulana Azad road, Budshah Chowk, Maisuma and Gaw Kadal.

About one hundred students on their motorcycles and scooters, holding black and green flags, were making round of different parts of the city.
