Staircase to Bandra skywalk opened

Mumbai, Aug 21 (UNI) The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) today opened a staircase to 1.3 km-long skywalk, connecting the Bandra railway foot overbridges (FOB) to Kalanagar, at Anant Kanekar Marg in suburban Bandra, thus making the commute easier for the pedestrians to the railway station.

With this, people residing in Behrampada area and those working in commercial establishments located at Anant Kanekar Marg, Bandra (East) will no longer have to go to Kalanagar to use the city's first skywalk for going to the railway station.

According to Joint Project Director (Public Relations) Dilip Kawathkar, there was a pending demand from both companies as well as residents to have easy connectivity to the station particularly during the peak hours since combating the traffic is one big task.

''With the staircase at Anant Kanekar Marg being opened, accessibility to the railway station will become much easier,'' he added.

The skywalk, built at a cost of Rs 13.63 crore, passes through Anant Kanekar Marg, D P Road and Nandadeep Garden. It also provides for the crossing of Western Express Highway and Sion-Dharavi link road that have a very high traffic volume. The skywalk has five entry/exit points.
