SSP Jammu transferred amid Amarnath land row

Jammu, Aug 21 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Government today transferred the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Jammu for the third time within twomonths amid the agitation over the Amarnath land row.

''SSP Security Manohar Singh has replaced Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu S D Singh Jamwal, who took the charge nearly 20-days ago,'' official sources told UNI.

This is the third transfer of SSP Jammu during the last nearly two months as the government had transferred Mr Parminder Singh from the post of SSP Jammu and replaced him with IPS officer Alok Kumar in July, who was also later transferred and replaced by Mr S D Singh.

However, Mr Manohar Singh is considered as an expert in anti-militancy operations with the Special Operation Group in Kashmir valley and as SSP Doda.

Thakare takes over as MPCC president

Mumbai, Aug 21 (UNI) Mr Manikarao Thakre today took over as the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President at the MPCC office here in presence of Chief Minister Vilarao Deshmukh and Revenue minister Narayan Rane. Mr Thakre said efforts would be made to narrow the gap between the party and the government and coordination would be maintained. He did not comment on resignation of Mr Rane, saying that the issue was not in his but High Command's jurisdiction......

Leptospirosis disease hits Surat

Surat, August 21 : Surat city in Gujarat has been hit by Leptospirosis disease, a bacterial illness passed on through the urine of infected animals in water, soil or vegetation following days of flooding. The city has been grappling with the disease outbreak for at least past 20 days. The hospital wards are brimming to their capacity due to daily inflow of patients suffering from Leptospirosis. The disease, which affects humans and animals, has gripped the people in the city, following rainfall.....

Beijing, Aug 21 (UNI) On a day that saw many unexpected results, Spain stunned defending Champions Australia 3-2, while Germany knocked out Holland 5-4 in a sudden death penalty shoot out to set up a summit clash in the Olympic hockey competition here tonight. Spain came back strongly from a two-goal deficit to make the final of the men's hockey tournament with a 3-2 victory over Athens Olympic champions Australia. Australians were looking to run.....
