Seminar on need for policy on land use in India on Aug 25

Mumbai, Aug 21 (UNI) In order to come to grips with the numerous aspects of the issue of land, a day-long seminar on 'The Land Question in India-Issues and the need for a policy on land use' has been organised here on August 25.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat will address the seminar, jointly organised by Indian School of Social Science and College of Social Work, a release said today.

The event has been planned in the back drop of widespread discontent witnessed over land related issues across India in the recent times, the release added.

5 killed, 14 injured in vehicle accident

Dehra Dun, Aug 21 (UNI) At least five people were killed and 14 injured when their vehicle they were traveling in overturned following a landslide near Sera, in Chamoli district of the State last evening. According to DMMC officials, the accident occurred around 1800 hrs yesterday when the driver of a private Tata Sumo with 19 passengers lost balance following a landslide in the area . The passengers were on their way to Dura in Chamoli.....

Perambalur, Aug 21 (UNI) Twenty-two persons were injured when a autorickshaw in which they were travelling turned upside after it hit against a car at Kalpadinear here yesterday. Police said the injured hailing from Sirukalappur, were on the way to their residences after attending a marriage when the mishap occurred. The injured were admitted to Government Hospital here, from where 15 of them were referred to Government Headquarters Hospital in Tiruchirapalli, police added. UNI RV KVV.....

Police lathicharge Cong workers in Singur

Singur, Aug 21: Police today baton charged a mob of about 1000 Congress workers, led by their local leader Abdul Mannan, when it tried to enter Tata Motor's small car project area here. U'khand govt to implement Sixth Pay Commission

Dehra Dun, Aug 21 (UNI) The Uttarakhand Government has constituted a two-member committee headed by fomer Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Secretary Sushil Kumar Tripathy and Finance Secretary Radha Raturi to implement the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. The high-level commission notified yesterday, would be given six months to submit its report, sources said. The commission would be entrusted to suggest ways and means for the implementation of the report, to put the minimum burden.....
