Scribes to stage dharna against attacks

Kozhikode, Aug 21 (UNI) The Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) will stage a dharna here on August 23 in protest against growing attacks on journalists in the State.

Representatives of newspaper management, editors, public, cultural and social workers would also participate in the dharna near Central Library in the city, KUWJ district president T K Ramakrishnan and Secretary Kamal Vardoor said in a release today.

Video clippings and photographs of the attacks would also be displayed at the venue, they said.

Stating that attack on journalists were on the rise throughout the state, they said seven reporters and newsphotographers representing various media groups were hospitalised after they sustained injuries in attacks while covering incidents during the nationwide general strike by the Left-led trade unions here yesterday.
