Beijing, Aug 21 (UNI) An erratic Rajiv Tomar could not match the guile of his rival American Steve Mocco and crashed out in the first round of the 120 kg freestyle without any fight thus ending three-member Indian challenge in the Olympic Wrestling competition here this morning.
It turned out to be virtually no contest as the bout ended in two rounds with the 28-year-old Indian hardly in control of the proceedings and he lost the match 0-4 .
Mocco was no great wrestler, he lost in the third round to Russian Bakhityar Akhmedov, thus ending Tomar's chance of repechage and hope of repeating team mate Sushil's feat.
Tomar was tentative from the start and as American started attacking, he tried to avoid contacting him but was not successful.
Mocco realising that Indian's defence is not very strong threw himself on Tomar and managed to pin him down and got a point in the first round.
The next round was totally dominated by the American and once he caught hold of Tomar he did not let him go. The Indian tried hard to wriggle out of the Mocco's stranglehold but was unsuccessful.
Mocco earned three points in this lopsided round to win the bout.
Coach P R Sondhi was not very happy with Tomar's performance.
He virtually lashed out at him saying that he did not wrestle very hard.
''Tomar did not try hard and his opponent was better than him,'' Sondhi said and added that he did not have high hopes from him.
''Tomar was not very good this morning, I told him to attack but he did not follow the stretegy,'' a furious Sondhi told mediapersons.
He said the opponent's defence was actually not very good but Tomar never tried aggressively.
