Punjab Cabinet approves land pooling scheme

Chandigarh, Aug 21 (UNI) The Punjab Cabinet today approved the land pooling scheme for the purpose of acquisition of land for public purposes.

The approval was granted at its meeting presided by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here, Chief Minister's Media Advisor Harcharan Bains said.

The Cabinet also gave approval for the construction of the world class Cricket Stadium/Sports Complex at Bathinda through competitive private participation over 25 acres of land.

The Cabinet gave a green signal for the revival and filling up of 100 posts of Medical Officers (General) and 147 posts of specialists through direct recruitment to be conducted by Punjab Public Service Commission.

Likewise, the Cabinet approved to fill 21 vacant posts of Chemical Examiner, Public Analyst and Assistant Chemical Examiner by direct recruitment in the food drugs and excise laboratories in the state.

Apart from this, the Cabinet approved to re-employ the willing medical, dental, ayurvedic teachers who retired since 2003 onwards to overcome the present precariously grim situation in the state health sciences institutions in which about 107 posts were lying vacant over the past several years.

The Cabinet also approved to transfer through disinvestment 9 out of 13 properties of Punjab Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) to the department of Tourism on lease through Punjab Infrastructure Development Board in a transparent manner. The proceeds accrued on account of lease of these properties would go to the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board for the promotion and development of tourism.

In order to improve the VAT revenue of the Punjab Government, the Cabinet approved to engage the services of a consultant " Price Water House Coopers" to assist the state Government on revenue augmentation initiatives.

The Cabinet also approved to cover sale promotion employees within the definition of 'workman' under section 2(s) of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.

TISS publishes report on Sardar Sarovar Project in Indore

Mumbai, Aug 21 (UNI) The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) today published a joint report on the 'Performance and Development Effectiveness of the Sardar Sarovar Project' (SSP) in Indore. The report was released by Shabana Azmi, noted film actor and a human rights activist, at St Raphael's Girls Higher Secondary School in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. 3 women drown while taking bath in sea

Visakhapatnam, Aug 21 (UNI) Three women were drowned when they went to take bath in the sea here today. Police said four women, residents of Akkayyapalem area in the city, had gone to take a dip in the sea and offer prayer. One of them stood at the shore while the other three went into the water when the mishap occured. According the police the deceased were identified as J Satyawathi (45), M Lakshmi Kantham (65) and.....

Pakistan encouraging unrest in J and K : Anand Sharma

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) India today accused Pakistan of encouraging the present unrest in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that there was no room for ''brazen assault'' on national unity and integrity. Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma, said elements within the valley have received succour and support from Pakistan. ''That is a cause of concern,'' he told CNN-IBN. He, however, declined to elaborate when asked whether it was the Pakistan government.....
