Operation Lotus set loose in municipalities by the BJP

Hubli, Aug 21 (UNI) The BJP has extended its Operation Lotus programme of breaking the opposition ranks by luring four members Congress and one from JDS today to join the saffron party in Haveri city municipality.

The district in charge minister C M Udasi welcomed all the new members at a function held at government guest house today.

Incidentally BJP was already in majority with 20 seats out of a total of 31.

Similarly the party had gained majority in Mysore city corporation by taking to their fold some opposition members recently.

HC defers hearing of former minister's bail plea

Mumbai, Aug 21 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today deferred the hearing of the anticipatory bail plea of former Maharashtra transport and tribal welfare minister Dharmatrao Atram, allegedly involved in Chinkara poaching in June, till tomorrow. Justice V K Tahilramani, after hearing his plea, directed the prosecution to file its say on August 22. In his plea, the former minister has challenged the order of Sessions court at Pune, which had rejected it on the ground.....

Wanted criminal dies in police encounter

Ghazipur, Aug 21 (UNI) Mohammad Shah Alam, a hardcore criminal and prime accused in the murder case of a Congress leader was gunned down in a police encounter in Kareemuddinpur area here this morning. On a tip-off, the outlaws were intercepted by the sleuths near Pradhapur village. In a bid to escape, the criminals opened fire on the police to which the cops retaliated resulting in the death of Alam, Superintendent of Police (SP) Brijraj Meena.....

SCR to run special train between Secunderabad and Kakinada

Vijayawada, aug 21 (UNI) The South Central Railway (SCR) will run a special train between Secunderabad-Kakinada on August 22 and Kakinada-Secundarabad on August 23 to clear the extra rush of passengers. Railway sources said here today that Secundarabad-Kakinada special would leave Secundarabad at 2230 Hrs and arrive in Kakinada town at 0850 Hrs on the next day. Kakinada-Secunderabad special will leave Kakinada town at 1930 Hrs and arrive in Secundarabad at 0800 Hrs the next day......

CM keen to bring more higher educational institutes: Minister

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 21 (UNI) State Transport Minister, K N Nehru today said the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was very keen on bringing more and more Central Government's higher educational institutes like IIM, IIT to Tamil Nadu. After inagurating a Hall mark Business School (HBS) here, Mr Nehru said following the efforts of Mr Karunanidhi, Tiruchirapalli, Tiruvarur and Coimbatore would also have such higher educational institutes soon.
