New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) National Security Advisor M K Narayanan today briefed the Union Cabinet on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the controversy over land for the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

Mr Narayanan apprised the Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, of the prevailing security scenario, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.

Asked whether the Prime Minister would take any fresh initiatives to defuse the situation in the sensitive border state, Mr Dasmunsi pointed out that Dr Singh had already held an all party meeting and further steps would follow, if necessary.

The NSA held a detailed meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and state senior officials in Srinagar yesterday.

Mr Narayanan was given a detailed brief about the free flow of trucks and other vehicles on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway and prevailing situation in the Kashmir valley and Jammu.

He was informed about the security measures taken by the administration to meet the challenge in view of the protests and strike in both the regions of the state. He was also briefed on the stock of essential commodities in the valley.
