Nirupam ''positive'' on solving stalemate over Singur project

Kolkata, Aug 21 (UNI) West Bengal Commerce and Industry Minister Nirupam Sen today exuded confidence about finding a solution to the political stalemate over Tata Motors' small car project at Singur.

Reacting to Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee's statement that yesterday's bipartite meeting yielded no result, Mr Sen said, '' I am always positive. I try to be positive. I think everyone will understand and she will realise how important is the project for the state. '' Speaking on the sidelines of a press meet, organised by Bhaskar Silicon Ltd here, he said, '' Ultimately, we will solve the problem. '' '' We are awaiting the alternative proposal from the Trinamool Congress, which the latter said in the meeting that they will submit soon, '' he informed.

Furthermore, the Commerce and Industry Minister would be present in a meeting tomorrow at Singher Bheri near the Tata Motors' project site at Singur.

The meeting would be attended by MP (Srirampore) Santashree Chatterjee, MP (Arambagh) Anil Basu and other CPI(M) district leaders, sources informed.

The meeting would place forth the party's views on the present situation at Singur to the local people, sources said.

Yesterday, Leader of the Opposition Partha Chatterjee, who held talks with Mr Sen in presence of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at the state Secretariat, stuck to the party's stand for returning 400 acre of Singur land to ''unwilling'' farmers, while the Government had refused to give in.
