Mendis still has to prove, feels Kapil

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) Amid media's much attention on Sri Lankan unorthodox spinner Ajantha Mendis, legendary Indian Kapil Dev felt that the bowler still has to prove himself.

''Media has highlighted Mendis a bit too prominently. It is too early to say if he will continue to perform like this for long,'' said Kapil, who was in Jalandar to attend a function.

''So far Mendis has done extraordinarily well and launched his cricket carrier in a marvellous way, but Indian batsmen are capable enough to tackle his bowling,'' he added.

Asked about the second league of Indian Cricket League (ICL), Kapil, who is also the Chairman of ICL, said there would be many changes in the upcoming league of the Twenty20 tournament.

He said in the years to come, ICL would open academies in several cities.

Kapil also congratulated 'Golden boy' Abhinav Bindra, Vijender Kumar and Sushil Kumar for winning Olympic medals and said government should ''concentrate'' on other sports as well.

''The government should concentrate on all sports if India wishes to improve its tally in the medal list of Olympic,'' he added.
