Man sentenced to life for murdering wife

Kancheepuram, Aug 21 (UNI) A fast track court today sentenced to life a 35-year-old man for murdering his wife at Pillayarpalayam here two years ago.

According to police, the couple, who had a daughter, often used to quarrel. On the day when the man Marimuthu(42) killed his wife Malar (35) on September 19, 2006, the woman had reprimanded him in strong words. An angered Marimuthu picked up a log of wood and hit her on the head. He also attacked in a similar fashion his 60 year-old mother-in-law when she tried to stop him. His wife who became unconcious was rushed to Kancheepuram Government hospital.

She was then shifted to the Government Hosptial in Chennai where the woman died in spite of best efforts by her doctors.

However, Marimuthu's mother-in law lodged a complaint with the police and a case of murder was registered, following which Marimuthu was arrested.

When the case came up in the fast track court this afternoon. the judge R Dandapani awarded life term and fine of Rs 2000 to Marimuthu convicting him of murder, and three years of imprisonment with a fine of another Rs 1000 for attacking his mother-in-law. Marimuthu was lodged in the Puzhal Central Prison here.

Seventy human skulls seized near Siliguri

Siliguri, Aug 21 (UNI) Darjeeling police today arrested two people including a 60-year-old woman, and seized some 70 human skulls and dozens of thigh bones from them at Panitanki bordering India and Nepal, about 30 km north from here. Deputy Superintendent of Police Pradip Kumar Dutta told UNI that Doma Lama and Uttam Rai (22) were caught red-handed while carrying skulls and some 25 femurs in two bags from Nepal. R K Anand, I U Khan debarred for 4 month from courts

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today found senior lawyers R K Anand and I U Khan guilty of the contempt of court and debarred them from appearing in the High Court and all Delhi courts for next four months for influencing a witness in the BMW hit-and-run case. A division bench comprising Justices Manmohan Sarin and Madan B Lokur held that the lawyers had lowered the dignity of the court by influencing Sanjiv.....
