Srinagar, Aug 21 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor, N N Vohra, today appreciated the efforts of civil society towards restoring normalcy in the State and expressed the hope that their collective efforts would help greatly in bringing about peace and harmony amongst various segments of society.
Interacting with a delegation of Peace Mission, comprising representatives of various religious organisations and prominent citizens of Delhi, led by Mr M A Madni, MP, here today, the Governor reiterated the vital importance of dialogue and conciliation for resolving all the issues amicably.
He strongly urged the leaders of various organisations to disseminate the message of peace and communal harmony, which has been a unique feature of the composite ethos of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Vohra reiterated that adequate security arrangements had been made for the movement of supplies on the National Highway and said transportation of fruits to different markets in the country was also proceeding satisfactorily.
He maintained that trucks carrying fruits and essential commodities were moving in fully escorted convoys twice a day on the National Highway.
If need be the number of convoys could be raised to three in view of the increased quantity of fruit to be transported in the ensuing peak fruit season, he added.
The Governor discounted the apprehensions of disruption in the traffic on the National Highway and said the road has been fully sanitised with mobile patrols keeping strict vigil on the Highway.
The Army was also assisting the Civil Administration in this regard.
Mr Vohra said 238 fruit-laden trucks left the Valley for different destinations in the country, crossing Lower Munda during the past 24 hours. He said the inflow of trucks carrying petroleum products, livestock, rations, essential commodities was also progressing.
The Peace Mission comprised the representatives of Jamat-e-Islami Hind, Muslim Majlis Mushawrat, Jamai-ul-Ulma-e-Hind, Mili Council, Jamait-ul-Ahal-e-Hadees and Shia Front, besides Dr J K Jain, former MP, and Father Samuel.
