JBIC to provide Rs 1,031 cr for Salaulim water supply system

Panaji, Aug 21 (UNI) Goa government is taking up a Rs 1,031 crore assistance from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) for augmentation of Salaulim water supply system by an additional 100 MLD in the first phase, PWD minister Churchill Alemao informed the state legislative assembly today.

Replying to a query in the House, the minister said the government was confident of providing water supply 24 hours a day on completion of the scheme.

The state, he said, required 340 million litres drinking water per day and had developed a capacity of 394 MLD through its seven regional water supply schemes in vogue.

The state experiences 35 MLD shortage during lean season, particularly from Opa water works and efforts were underway to augment supplies through various steps besides ensuring reduction in wastage of water, he added.

People's Tribunal to hear minority victims of terrorism

Hyderabad, Aug 21 (UNI) An independent ''People's Tribunal'' will be organised here for three days from tomorrow for the benefit of minority victims of atrocities in the name of fighting ''terrorism.'' Victims or their close relatives from eight states would depose before the Tribunal. Asghar Ali Engineer, Justice S N Bhargava, Justice Sardar Ali and K G Kannabiran are the eminent members of the Tribunal. The findings would be recorded and forwarded to Prime Minister Manmohan.....

Civil Aviation Minister Patel inaugurates country's longest runway in Delhi

New Delhi, August 21 : Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel on Thursday inaugurated the country's longest runway at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi. The first touchdown on the 2.75-mile-(4.4-kilometer)-long new runway, the third in the row, was made by an Air India Boeing 777 flight. Various MPs and senior officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation were present at the inaugural ceremony. The new runway developed by Delhi International Airport private limited under a public private partnership.....

Yeddyurappa to visit US to woo investors

Bangalore, Aug 21 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, accompanied by his cabinet colleagues and legislators, will undertake a week-long tour to United States to woo investors. Talking to newspersons after chairing the State High Level Clearance Committee (SHLCC) Meeting here, he said ''I want to utilise my tour of US to attract investors from people of Karnataka origin settled there and also others, who are interested.'' The State would conduct 'Suvarna Karnataka Global Investors.....
