Internation fair on renewable energy kicks off today

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) More than 200 exhibitors from 20 countries across the globe came under a roof today to showcase their products, technology and innovation in the renewable energy sector.

These exhibitors were participating in the 3-day Renewable Energy India 2008 Expo and conference, which was inaugurated by New and Renewable Energy Minister Vilas Muttemwar.

Spread across an area of 6714 sqm, the Expo was organised with the support of the New and Renewable Energy Ministry, IREDA and others.

The objective of the conference is to drive awareness of technological advancements, innovative practices and regulatory framework to promote future growth of renewables in India.

The conference endeavours to bring together industry leaders, technocrats, investors, government officials and academia to discuss the emerging opportunities in the country's renewable industry.

The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology is celebrating a German Renewbale energy Day tomorrow and German Energy Efficiency Day on 23rd August at the Expo.

The industry experts will deliberate upon the challenges and potential of renewable energy in achieving a capacity of 14 GW during the 11th Five year Plan.

To achieve this vision, the government has planned a subsidy support system of about one billion dollars in government funds to complement 15 billion dollars investment requirement for enhancing present installed capacity. The country has achieved 12.6 GW of power from renewable sources.

The Expo will also hold a special 'youth summit' program to drive awareness in accelerating the adoption of renewable energy in day-to-day life and growing career opportunities in the sector.

Industry leaders from various countries including India, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the UK and the US will sought out ways for investments in technology transfer and joint ventures, which would help India to achieve energy independence.
