India condemns Algeria terror attack, calls for global fight

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) India today strongly condemned the ''repugnant'' act of terrorism in Algeria on tuesday, and reaffirmed the demand for global cooperation to counter the scourge with resolve and resilience.

In a statement, the External Affairs Ministry said the terrorist attack in the Algerian town of Issers, which killed dozens of people, clearly exposed the grave threat that terrorism presented to the security of nations.

No cause and no grievance could ever justify terrorism which could be tolerated in any form, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said.

''We reiterate our stand that the international community should cooperate closely to counter terrorism with resolve and resilience,'' Mr Sarna said.

The statement said India stood firmly with ''friendly Algeria'' in their fight against terroirism.

''We strongly condemn the repugnant act of terrorism that took place in the Algerian town of Issers on Tuesday. The terrorist attack, killing dozens of people, clearly exposes the grave threat that terrorism presents to the security of nations. No cause, no grievance, can ever justify acts of terrorism. Terrorism in any form cannot be tolerated,'' the spokesman added.

Two car bomb attacks in the eastern Algerian town of Bouira yesterday killed about 12 people and injured at least 31.

The attacks came only a day after a suicide bomber drove a car packed with explosives into the entrance of a police school killing 43 people and injuring 45 other in Issers, also in eastern Algiers.

Most of the victims were university graduates waiting to take an exam for joining the paramilitary police force.
