Puducherry, Aug 21: Excise police on Thursday, Aug 21 unearthed an illegal liquor manufacturing unit at Mudaliarpet here and arrested seven people.
According to excise sources, the police received information that illicit liquor was being manufactured in a house at Mudaliarpet, and the department kept a close watch on the house.
When they found people coming and going out even after midnight, a team surrounded the house last night.
In the wee hours, a man came out from the house and on seeing the house being surrounded, he ran inside and locked the door. Police later broke open the door and arrested the seven occupants. They also sezied 50 boxes containing manufactured liquor of different brands, machines used for manufacturing, labels, corks among other things.
On interrogation, one of the arrested was identified as Jayaraman (50) of Ariyankuppam while six others were from Panrutti in Tamil Nadu.
Police said one Kavirajan was the kingpin and though they laid a trap to nab him, he managed to escape.
