Five get life imprisonment in murder case

Darbhanga, Aug 21 (UNI) A fast track court has awarded rigorous life imprisonment to five people in a murder case.

The court also slapped fine of Rs 10,000 against each of the convicts yesterday.

Fast track court number five of Devendra Prasad Singh found all the accused guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to charges, the accused had killed one Damodar Yadav in Baghnochi village under Baheri police station of Darbhanga district on September 22, 1992.

Body recovered in Kashmir forests

Srinagar, Aug 21: A body of a 50-year-old man was recovered from woods in the frontier district of Kupwara, official sources said today. They said a group of villagers noticed a body in the Tara Panchan Ji forest and informed the police. Police leter took away the body. Lucknow, Aug 21 (UNI) Parag milk dairy's incharge Om Prakash(45), was shot dead by some unidentified assailants in forest area under Sardhana police station of Meerut district early this morning. Om Prakash, a local resident, used to collect milk for Pradeshik Coopeartive Dairy Federation (PCDF) which was further distributed through Parag dairies. He was passing through the forest area when he was shot dead around 0400 hrs, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Meerut told UNI over.....

JK: Ban on posters, checks on market

Srinagar, Aug 21: The District Election Officer (DEO), Bandipora, has banned pasting of posters and paintings on walls in the district in the view of upcoming elections in the state. The district administration of Bandipora is the first among all districts of Jammu and Kashmir to set up a control room to strictly enforce the market checking after the normal business activities resumed in the valley after several days strike. Power production stops following Transformer blast in NTRTPS

Vijayawada, Aug 21 (UNI) Power production at Unit-3 in Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station(NTRTPS) came to a halt today following a auxilary Transformer blast here. Official sources said the power production would be restored by this evening after loads were shifted to the alternative transformer. Following te blast, about 210 MW of power production had been stopped. The producion was stopped in Unit-I due to maintenance and the work will be resumed from August 27......

CAG pulls up tourism dept for Rs 2.46 cr idle investment

Panaji, Aug 21 (UNI) The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has pulled up the Goa Tourism Department for ''idle investment'' of Rs 2.46 crore in the development and beautification work of the Mala Lake in the capital city.
