New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today commended the Fire Service for rendering a great job and said it was able to save property worth Rs 300 crore last year.

It responded to 15,718 calls relating to fire incidents during the period, she said while inaugurating a newly constructed fire station at Mangolpuri Industrial Area Phase-II.

Emphasising that her government was committed to modernising the fire safety network, she said three more fire stations at Tahirpur, Sarita Vihar and Shastri Park would be commissioned during this very month.

She exhorted people to strictly follow fire safety measures during construction of their buildings especially high-rise buildings.

The complex has been constructed with Rs 1.62 crore.

At present, Delhi Fire Service has 48 Fire Stations including Headquarters and Training Centre. In order to reduce the response time, 22 more fire stations are proposed to be added during the present Plan period.

Three Disaster Management Centers have been established and are functioning at Laxmi Nagar, Rohini and Nehru Place Fire Stations to provide immediate response in case of natural or man-made disasters.
