Lahore, Aug 21 (UNI) Controversial pacer Mohammed Asif could still emerge unscathed from his latest dope scandal after a major discrepancy was found in the concentrations of the prohibited steroid nandrolone in his two drug samples.
''There is a major discrepancy in the two (urine) samples of Asif which came out positive, and in such cases, the player has a chance to be cleared,'' president of the Sports Medicine Association of Pakistan Dr Danish Zaheer told mediapersons today.
According to reports, 6.2mg of the steroid nandrolone was found in Asif`s 'A' sample while the 'B' sample recorded 5.4mg. The findings has raised hopes that even if the Indian Premier League (IPL) rejected Asif`s appeal, the 25-year-old could approach the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS).
''This is a lot of difference and I`m sure if his lawyer pursues the case, Asif has a chance to come out clean,'' Zaheer said.
''I still remember that an Indian athlete Sunita Rani, who won the gold medal at the Busan Asian Games in 2002, had a similar case of varied readings. She appealed and won her case at the CAS.'' UNI XC AB RAR HS1635
